It was great to be back in San Jose this year. It’s certainly amazing how GTC has grown since the early shows in 2009/2010.
Since I started using NVIDIA GPU’s there has been an increase in compute over 28 years from the 4 Watt, .0005 Teraflop RIVA128 (1997) ….. to a 720,000 Teraflop 72 core GB200 Blackwell cabinet (2025) consuming 120,000 Watt (at FP16).
One of the most impressive announcements at this years show was actually Spectrum X. This is the new silicon photonics interconnect [ More ]. Using fibre optics to connect GPU’s reduces power usage compared to copper cables once you have any distance to cover. It’s some impressive technology to reduce the power usage, cost and size of the photonics interface with all new silicon process and packaging developed alongside TSMC.
